NWPA Meeting this wed, Jan 11

** Progressive Dinner planning is Thursday at Gail Middendorf’s house, 410 Woodland Ave.  Bring COPIES of recipes!   Last year 150+ neighbors took part and it was a great deal of fun.

Wed Jan 11 @ 7:30 pm @ Gryphon, AGENDA:

1.  Friends of Cowan Park, Brad Palmer.  Neighbors have organized to bring about improvements to the park.

2.  Township police traffic committee — pedestrian safety.   Committee sought to address concerns we brought up in the fall, we attended December meeting.  Township will re-paint the crosswalk at Walnut & North Wayne.   Won’t move it to Oak though, would not comply with PennDOT regs.  Township will ask PennDOT if can have a crosswalk again on North Wayne & Poplar.  Saying can’t do anything about Eagle and Woodland.  Jim Higgins would like to discuss next steps.  Issue should be escalated beyond just police traffic (i.e. cars) personnel to a program to improve North Wayne walkability & pedestrian safety.

3.  Cabrini — proposed parking lot on Eagle Road.  Neighbor who has been attending Cabrini meetings is providing information.

4.  PECO contacted re too frequent power outages, response is engineering is running thorough review this month and will let us know.  They trimmed trees Nov 2010, may come out again.

5.  NWPA Directory.  If you know anyone not getting these emails, that means they are not paid for 2012 and won’t be in the directory or get one.  (They can still pay today and get one!)  New directories will be printed this month.

6.  Another great holiday season, thanks to all who helped with lighting the neighborhood tree, luminarias and the carol sing.  Please send pictures/videos if you have them.

NWPA Meeting next Wednesday

Our next meeting is Wednesday Nov 9 @ 7:30 pm @ Gryphon coffee.   (NOTE not today Nov 2, sorry for any confusion!).
At the October meeting we spent time discussing what we can do to calm traffic and keep pedestrians safe throughout the neighborhood.  Marc is collating everyone’s concerns and bringing them to the police chief and township manager.   As one neighbor pointed out it will definitely take one person to lead and be very determined to bring about improvements, as happened in South Wayne.
In other news on Sunday Oct 23 we had a great time at Sugartown Strawberries for the Halloween bonfire.  About 60 neighbors came out and we roasted hot dogs and s’mores and the kids ran around and had a ball.
Looking ahead to the Carol Sing on Dec 18, we’ll be gathering at 5:30 at the Radnor Historical Society which will be lit up and decorated and we’ll put cookies and drinks out and SANTA!!! will be there.  Neighborhood singers and musicians please email galebmorrison@gmail.com and amymarren@gmail.com if you can come out and help keep us in tune.
Please “LIKE” the North Wayne Protective Association Facebook page if you haven’t already, it’s a really easy way for the board to communicate without filling up your email in-box.   We would still love to have pictures and videos of NWPA past gatherings on the FB page.  This should be a fun way for people around the globe who grew up in North Wayne to see a piece of home.

Oct 12 Meeting

Quick reminder please come if you can this Wednesday Oct 12 @ 7:30 pm @ Gryphon Cafe for the NWPA monthly meeting.

We meet quickly once a month to discuss neighborhood affairs, plan future social activities, and keep group admin in order.  This week we may have a group who will adjourn someplace on N. Wayne for a drink afterwards.
Some topics right now:
1.)  Changing the timing of the 2-hr parking limit in the 100 block of Poplar, from 8a-12p to 8a-8p.  Kevin Moroney is leading this effort.  Commuters and village employees do need to use the metered parking, not residential street parking.
2.)  More traffic calming and pedestrian safety measures — including bigger, more pronounced cross walks.  The corner at N. Wayne, Poplar and Pennsylvania is one focus.
3.)  A adult social event for single folks and all those without kids at home.
4.)  Music for the Halloween bonfire and help with decoration for the carol sing.
Questions?  Suggestions?   Email NWPA president Marc Hirschler mhirschler@verizon.net.
The NWPA is run strictly for fun and the benefit of our neighborhood and neighbors.  No fundraising required and no big time commitments!
In terms of communication we are working to keep email volume low and messages short.   The Facebook page does not seem to have enough of a following to use that and forgo email.  You will see one more email today, an e-vite for the bonfire.   This is the easiest way for our volunteer organizers to get a headcount.

Stream Cleanup this Sunday

Please do come out on Sunday between 1pm and 5pm to help clean out the streams throughout the neighborhood. Marc Hirschler and I have two big boxes of sturdy garbage bags supplied by Public Works. Meet Marc at corner of N. Wayne & Eagle. I will be on Poplar. New neighbor Peter Rush is ‘block captain’ for the Willow St efforts, which could need lots of help so head there if your immediate area does not need help. We could also use a leader for the area around the bridge at Walnut & Oak.
